Table of Contents

  • Interactive Science Notebook Front of Notebook Resources (Spanish) (Portuguese) (Japanese)
  • Unit 1: Photosynthesis Table of Contents (ToC)  (Spanish) (Portuguese) (Japanese)
If you are ABSENT, look at the ToC (see link above) to see if pages have been added. You are responsible for keeping your notebook up to date. Left-hand pages are ones that are student-thinking and this must be your own work. Right-hand pages are group or teacher-directed and can be photocopied using the class photocopier.

Task

You are a group of soil scientists and have been commissioned by a government agency to help reverse global warming. You need to design a natural, low cost method that is effective and scalable to pull extra carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and store it in plants and the soil.

Big Aha!

Can photosynthesis cause or solve environmental crisis?                                                                         (ELL & support)

Enduring Understanding

  • The transfer of energy can be tracked as energy flows through a natural system.
  • Plants need energy from the sun, carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and water to produce energy in the form of glucose.
  • The biotic part of an ecosystem have producers, consumers, and decomposers.
  • Matter moves through the biotic part of the ecosystems as organisms consumer each other.
  • The biotic and abiotic parts of an ecosystem interact as matter cycles between them.
  • Organisms consumer food for growth and to release energy.
  • Food molecules are rearranged and release energy for organisms to use for the processes of life.
  • Food molecules contain carbon. They react with oxygen to release energy. Carbon dioxide and water are byproducts.
  • Photosynthesis and respiration are opposite reactions.
