Test Retake Policy

The test and quiz improvement policy is included on this document. You have TWO weeks, unless it's at the end of trimester, to show that you have worked to learn the content. When you come during advisory to do the test or quiz, you must bring the signed paper showing evidence of preparedness to retake the test or quiz.

The test corrections is in three parts for each incorrect problem. The corrections format described below.

Put a Hall Heading on a piece of graph paper.
  • Copy the original problem from the test and solve it correctly.
  • Write about the error you made in the original test.   (I________instead of  _______.)
  • Explain, using correct mathematical vocabulary, how to solve the problem.   Example:  First, I __________ because __________.   Next, I ________ because _________.
  • Do this for every problem that you lost points on in the test.
  • Staple this to the back of your original test.
  • Due a week after tests are returned.
  • You may come in during advisory to work on test corrections.

You may also want to set it up in a three column corrections, but this is not required. If you have large handwriting do not use this format as it will be difficult to show all of your work in. See below.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Question: I am not happy with my test grade. What can I do?
Answer: If you have done less than 70% of the homework at the time of the test, then you may only do test corrections to earn half the lost points back. Use the Three Part Test Correction System above, If you have done 70% or better on homework, you need to do the test corrections (to earn half the points back)  OR you may do test corrections to retake the test (You can earn up to 92% and then do test corrections on that to earn half those points back).

Question: Am I required to do test corrections?
Answer: It depends. Here are the two situations:
If you score BELOW a 70%, you are REQUIRED to and if it is ABOVE 70% you can stick with your score. These are things you can do to improve your grade.
a.  correct the original test using the Three Part Test Correction System above (correct it, error analysis, explain in words the correct method) for each incorrect problem.
b.  do additional practice/review on concepts you need help on
c.  get the Request to Reassess sheet signed
d.  bring the test correction packet (test, corrections, signed Request to Reassess, and any other evidence) the day you intend to retake the test.
The maximum grade you can get is a 92%. If you are still not satisfied, repeat the above process but only to earn half the points back.
If the grade on the retake is lower, I take the average of the two and you will do test corrections to earn half the points back.

Question: Can I get help on test corrections?
Answer: Yes. You can do it with a classmate, tutor, parent or come in during advisory.

Question: When are test/quiz retake deadlines?
Answer: You must do your first attempt at a retake within TWO weeks from the day you receive the test/quiz back. If you are absent during that time, please email me or talk to me when you return. Note: All retakes must be done before the end of the trimester and in some instances you may have less than three weeks to complete the process.

Question: How much will my grade go up if I do corrections?
Answer: It depends. You need to retake the test. The highest score you may earn up to a 92%.

Question: Can I earn higher than a 92% on retakes?
Answer: No, 92% is the highest score. So make sure your homework grade is solid if you are wanting to get an A or A-.

Question: Can I earn extra credit?
Answer:
No. You are required to do the work and retake tests until you are satisfied with the score.
The focus of this course is on mastering the concepts. Showing proficiency on your tests is the way to improve your score.

Question: What if my score goes down on the retake?
Answer: I will take the average of the two scores. Then you will go through the test retake process again AND you must make at least one appointment to see me (or if you have one, a professional tutor) for help.

Q: How can I figure out what my score is as a letter grade?
A: First change your score into a percent (divide, then multiply by 100). Look at the scale below to see what the percentage score is as a letter grade:
        Grading Scale
        A 100-95
        A- 94-90
        B+ 89-87
        B   86-83
        B-  82-80
        C+ 79-77
        C   76-73
        C-  72-70
        D+ 69-67
        D   66-63
        D-  62-60
