Grades

Grades are weighted according to the following categories:
  • Notebook 50% - includes homework assignments
  • Tests, & Quizzes - 10%
  • Homework/Classwork - 5%
  • Projects - 35%
There is very little extra credit for this course. The expectation is that you do the material to the best of your ability. Remember that turning in work late can take off up to 30% of your grade; however, you may ask for extensions before a deadline if you need more time or need help.
Late Policy
Students may call, email or get a parental/guardian note if an extension is needed. It is not necessary to give a reason, but the request must be made before the deadline otherwise a 10% penalty will go into effect. Each late day will be an additional 10% reduction with a maximum of 30% deducted.
If you have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) that states that you may have extended time for assignments, the penalty does not apply daily. However, it is a good habit to communicate about any additional time needed.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Grades & Grading Policy

Q: How much can I bring my test or quiz score up to?
A:
If you scored below a 75%, you can bring it up to a 75% by correcting the original and making replacement problems. If you are above a 75%, you can correct it and that will increase the score by 2%.

Q: How can I figure out what my score is as a letter grade?

A: First change your score into a percent (divide, then multiply by 100). Look at the scale below to see what the percentage score is as a letter grade:

        Grading Scale
        A 100-96
        A- 95-90
        B+ 89-87
        B   86-83
        B-  82-80
        C+ 79-77
        C   76-73
        C-  72-70
        D+ 69-67

        D   66-63
        D-  62-60

Q: I want to bring my grade up for a test given on paper. So after I make my 1 question to replace each one I missed, do I need to answer the questions I made up?
A: Yes, answer the questions you make up. You can do the answers write on the question or make a separate key. Either way is fine, but you must answer them.

Q: Do the problems I write have to be original?
A: Yes, they need to be original. You can look in your science notebook for ideas, at the test or even on-line for idea, but the questions must be original.
